On the way back to CHCH we stopped by Castle Rocks to try and climb on the rock in street shoes (not the best idea we had). The next day we went to Hanmer Springs and soaked in some hotsprings and found a brewery along side the road on the way home so we stopped there for some beer and food. The next day Joe and I were on our way to return the car and found a indoor gocart track. These cars would go at least 50mph of it wasn’t for the one turn. It was the best $25 I spent in chch.
Oct 7th the weather cleared up on the Ice and the 1st flight made it to the Ice. Our flight was then due to lift off at 2am on the 8th. We all loaded up in a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster for the 5 hour flight. We got within an hour of landing and the weather moved in and we had to return chch. That flight was 8 ½ hours. The next day we loaded up at 9am and landed on the Ice.
Here's a pic as people loaded the C-17. That's all cargo in the back.
