Where am I?

For those of you that don’t know I’m taking a season off from Ski Patrolling at Mt.Rose. I have found a Fuels Operator job with a company called Raytheon Polar Services. Raytheon has a lot of government contracts and employs 78,000 plus people all over the world. The Polar Services division handles all logistics for the National Science Foundation (NSF) on the continent of Antarctica (South Pole).

I will be stationed at McMurdo it is the largest U.S. research facility in Antarctica. McMurdo is located on the southern tip of Ross Island in McMurdo Sound. Ross Island is about 45sq mi, 2,414mi from Christchurch, New Zealand and 850mi from the South Pole. Mt Erebus is the most active volcano on Ross Island with the summit at 12,488ft, 900 ft deep crater, and 2,640 wide.

My job as a Fuels Operator is to move fuel from one place to another. All the buildings in Antarctica have smaller fuel tanks that need to be filled aka a cold gas man.
